Care training

HASCTAR aims to improve the quality of healthcare in the countries within West Africa. This is carried out through skills training for the local HCAs (health care assistants), nurses and doctors. The standards of training and certifications offered are based on curriculum set in the United Kingdom. The Care Certificate training is delivered in stages.

1. Five hours of interactive sessions with our tutor (one hour daily Monday to Friday) If you miss any session, you can join the same session on another week.

2. Workbooks to be completed based on the syllabus. This is based on the curriculum and material set out on the Skills for Care website.

3. Tests and scoring of each of the 15 standards. An overall pass will lead to the Care Certificate. This is done by each candidate online and can take 20 to 30 hours to complete.

4. Support from our local networks to engage the certified carers to observe or work in care homes, nursing homes and community settings in their local area. This will lead to an experience certificate that will help in applying for jobs.

5. Job interview training for one hour.

Some of the trained candidates may choose to apply for jobs overseas and should be able to show that they have been given the relevant training through HASCTAR. When the candidates pass the set standards the appropriate UK certification will be emailed to the candidate.
